Music: Patriot music

Content: Today on Polit-news, we will focus on some hot news items. The Supreme court decisions on the Voting rights act and same-sex marriage. This week the Supreme Court found section 5 of the voting right act unconstitutional. The 15 states that had to pre-approve will now be free to create their re-redistricting lines without having to get pre-cleared by the Justice department.  The Second Supreme Court decision is the court ruling the Defense of Marriage of Act unconstitutional, section 5 of the law is unconstitutional. What that means is? The Government must now extend benefits to same-sex couples that are married in states that approve same-sex marriage. However, states with bans on same-sex marriage can still deny those benefits. I have to say these two decision give a win to both liberals and conservatives, but both lost as well. The voting rights case gives Republican southern states free reign to make voting lines and laws without getting approval from the federal governemnt, and that is a major win for them. The same-sex marriage decision is a win for the gay rights movement and Democrats. The quest for equal rights is winning, slowly, but in a speedy pace.

Texas: The war on women defeated by One woman

The war on women is now being fought in Texas. The state legislature,

which is controlled by Republicans, was considering the most restricted

Anti-Abortions bill. The bill was being supported and opposed on party

lines. Republicans in support of the bill, and Democrats against the bill.

The bill would elinimate abortions after 20 weeks. The legislation

would have closed almost every abortion clinic in Texas. Texas is a big

state, with alot of people, and its one of the largest populated states.

Democrats staged a filibuster in the state senate to block the bill. One

female senator decided to lead the filibuster. Wendy Davis, state senator

of Forth Worth, led the filibuster for almost 14 hours. According to the

rules, she could not sit, lean, get something eat, take a bathroom break,

or stop talking. She was supported by hundreds of women and other

supporters at the Austin state capital.

The bill failed, after Republicans voted to end her filibuster, and they

ran out of time to offfically pass the bill.

Personally, I am inspired and impressed with this woman. State Senator

Wendy Davis, raised by a young single mother, first to get her college

degree, and go to Harvard.

I'm a big believer in standing up for what you believe in, and Wendy

Davis that. She did it in a honest, respectful, and humble way.
